Russell is a mask unlockable in Hotline Miami. The mask is of a bull, and when worn by Jacket, it gives the game a black and white filter, with the exception of the UI and blood. This mask is exclusive to the Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia versions of the game.
Obtaining[]
The Russell mask can be found at the end of Prelude (Metro) directly to the left of where you throw the briefcase into the dumpster.
Trivia[]
- The description for this mask reads "Raging Bull," suggesting that the mask is an homage to Martin Scorsese's black and white boxing film of the same name.
- It could also be a reference to the misconception that bulls are angered by the color red (bulls are actually red-green color-blind).
- When Jacket takes off his mask in Showdown, the filter is removed.
- The mask will apply the black and white filter over the map, but not over the character’s face sprite during any kind of dialogue. The only exceptions to this are Biker’s mask and face sprites in “Neighbors” as well as Brandon’s face sprite in “Highball”. Why these two are the only one’s affected in this manner is currently unknown.
- In “Metro”, the first 50 Blessings tag is red even if you wear this mask. The one upstairs appears to be affected by the filter.
