A Hotline Miami mod refers to a game modification made for the first installment in the series.
Differing from Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number or its Level Editor, these mods encompass a broad spectrum of changes, ranging from minor visual tweaks to comprehensive alterations of the game's content and design. This versatility provides mod developers with ample creative freedom to create more unique experiences.

Mods do not typically require the user to own a copy of Hotline Miami due to them running from their own independent modified Hotline Miami executable. Some mods might not include music tracks when being shared and as such it might be necessary to place the executable file in the same folder the original Hotline Miami executable is found.
Within the modding community, there are two distinct mod development approaches:
- Source code modification, usually involving substantial rewrites of the game's codebase.
- Original project creation, built from the ground up, while still occasionally or heavily referencing the original code.
