Hotline Miami Wiki

Overview[]

The Double Barrel is a weapon appearing in both Hotline Miami and Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, It is a break-action double barreled shotgun.

Hotline Miami[]

In Hotline Miami, the Double Barrel is a very common firearm, as Mobsters frequently use it; however Mobsters wielding Double Barrels are less common than Mobsters with M16s and Shotguns. This weapon is very strong, as it fires 20-28 projectiles with a large spread per shell, and it has a very fast rate of fire; however it has a miniscule magazine size, so it is likely to be discarded quickly. Due to the fact it has the longest sprite out of all the common weapons, the Double Barrel is the easiest weapons to hit when thrown at enemies, meaning it may be useful when using the Jake Mask. This weapon is required for the Guns For Show achievement.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number[]

Here, the Double Barrel is now rarer due to the fact that it is exclusively used by Mobsters; however, on levels with Mobsters it appears as frequently as its Hotline Miami counterpart. This weapon remains unchanged from it's first iteration. The Aubrey Mask in the Level Editor gives Jacket the Double Barrel at the start of the level. This weapon is required for the A BOX FULL OF SHARP OBJECTS achievement.

Trivia[]

  • The Double Barrel may be based on the Two Side by Side Antique Shotguns in the 1998 Black Comedy film Lock Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. This is reinforced by the fact two achievements (Guns For Show, Knife For Pros) are references to the same movie.
  • This weapon in Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number used to use the incorrect SndShotgun.wav file instead of the intended SndDoubleBarrel.wav when used by the Player; This was fixed in a later patch, but the Playstation versions of the game still possess this bug.
    • This is also shared with the Machine Gun which used to use the SndUzi.wav instead of SndM16.wav file
  • Due to the number of projectiles discharged when firing, the Double Barrel may be firing Birdshot rounds, which have a higher pellet count.
  • In Hotline Miami, when using Aubrey on Decadence, there is a chance a 6 Round Double Barrel can spawn in the first main room.
  • The Pig Butcher has an unique animation while wielding the Double Barrel, where he will point it at the ground unless it is being fired, However, due to the nature of his levels, it is only showcased in Midnight Animal.
  • There is a bug in the Level Editor where the Double Barrel can be used as a silenced weapon when using it as The Pig Butcher.
  • When wielded by fat player characters, the Double Barrel's barrel appears to be shorter than it actually is.
